Beating a Defender

Setup

You will require: 2 balls per 3 / 4 bibs / 30 cones, Create a grid 16 x 8, Mark the halfway with a line of cones about 2 meters apart, A group of three players needs two balls

How it works

Position the defender in the middle line in the grid, The defender in the middle only moves side to side on the middle line in an attempt to stop the attacker, The attacker uses skills and feints to get beyond the defensive line, If the defender wins the ball he switches role with the player that lost the ball, If the attacker succeeds then the second attacker starts at the other end

Coaching points

  • Ball out of feet
  • Head up dribble
  • Use both feet
  • Change speed
  • Change direction

Progressions

progression: Turn the line into a middle zone offering the defender more freedom, Regression: Have two players go from one side each time
